Context: not much to add here, back to the 8th Doctor, love Charley and Audacity as a companion team so lets get to it!

THE REVIEW

What I thought: Lost Amongst the Stars is an Audacity show piece, with the new-ish companion starting to question the doctor a little more, working out what their adventures mean etc etc. It is also one where she gets seriously hurt, dead in fact! For a while, anyway, with an alien fungus creating all sorts of havoc for the team. The story is engaging, and all the characters have lots to do, some fun moments, but a fairly serious episode, especially the second half, where Audacity is taken over by the alien fungus. It feels like a short episode to me, a sign of a good episode that it went along at such a great speed, with the team just about back together at the end, although Adacity, I feel, will be changed permanently by this particular adventure….

This is born out in the second story, The Time You Never Had, with Audacity ending up having adventures with a time-travelling Silurian called Mr Barabus! It’s a great section of the episode, and one which again pushes on the character of Audacity, she is the main character in this adventure, I would say. The Richard Branson-esque Yorkshireman is a kind of interesting idea; however, I lose all interest in this once the time-travelling lizard man turns up. The time travel aspects are a little overused in BF I think but work well here in this adventure and its integral to the plot. The ending is intriguing as well, hints of some sinister force planning and plotting in the background. Very much enjoyed this boxset.

Rating: 4 out of 5 cravats: great fun and Audacity is a real asset to the BF companion roster, it’s really her adventures here. Both strong episodes, and a thread developing that is intriguing. Can’t wait to hear how this plays out in the next boxset.
