Context: not much to add here, I do like the 13th Doctor and Yaz, so back to this era is always welcome and I looking forward to these every other month, quite like this structure for 13’s ongoing BF adventures.
THE REVIEW
What I thought: it’s a good story, and darker/deeper than I thought this series would get to quite this soon, but it does make for a strong and compelling adventure. Lots of introspection by Yaz (due to the alien it turns out, big surprise) on how the Doctor leaves people behind and kind of forgets them. The Zaarians are great and Talpa aka ‘Talps’ is a great companion for a day/adventure dude type vibe. The 13th Doctor is on great form here, trying desperately to work out what is going on, slowly realising the affect of leaving the aliens to their own devices and struggling with Yaz challenging her over the way she treats her companions once the fireworks are over. It all gets resolved very nicely. This feels like an important episode, themes I reckon they will be returning to in this long run of adventures for the 13th Doc and Yaz…very much recommended.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 mind parasites: Loved this, more so now reflecting on it after the listen than when I listened to it, bizarrely. It’s a joyful and very meaning filled episode. Great stuff.
What I felt: Loved this one. Yaz and 13 are rapidly becoming one of my favourite TARDIS teams, the interplay between Mandip and Jodie is fantastic…no disrespect to Ncuti but I wish we had a couple more seasons on TV of this, it truley is magical.
What am I left thinking?
- Will we (I hope so) return to the themes of the doctors recklessness again?
- Would love to see Talps again
- More of this in general I say
Memorable bits
- Yaz having a real pop at the doctor, strong stuff
- Hope being able to defeat the villain, LOVE THIS! Its ACT in dr who form!
