Context: I haven’t listened to an old sixie adventure for a while so was pleased this one came along. I am not a massive fan of Peri TBH, I prefer other 6th doc companions however I do love what BF has done for 6 …. so, onward!

THE REVIEW

What I thought: a couple of good episodes, if not a little long at times, both were entertaining and showcase how good the 6th doctor is. The first episode is an interesting take on a pirate-esque adventure (some nice nods to Dr Who and the Pirates(!) in this one). I would probably have preferred less of the alien stuff, not sure that was entirely necessary, I like the historical (although this isn’t really a historical but really convinced me that x was a real pirate, such is the class of the writing in this one). Lots of good dialogue from Colin and Peri gets some good stuff to do here.

Red for Danger! Was ultimately a really fun, oddball, type story, with some crazy riffs on English public school shenningans with bad guys and intrigue (the socialist in me finds it all equally annoying though, this shows how ridiculous public schools are…jesus). The constant teasing of ‘the red headed child’ worked well and it’s wasn’t until the end it really did confirm who I initially thought this was, then wasn’t etc etc i.e. Turlogh…I was very much sucked into this twisty turny narrative…lovely stuff and I am hoping Turlough ends up travelling with the 6th Doctor and Peri for a while. Could lead to some interesting new adventures.

Rating: 3.7 out of 5 mainsails: I thought both stories were good fun, if not a little long, with a mixture of fun, pathos and adventure. Peri still annoys me as a character, I preferred her in the second episode, just my personal preference rather than a major issue, nice performance from Colin B in both of these.

What I felt: happy and amused, and very intrigued by the introduction of Turlough right at the end of the second story, very much looking forward to seeing where this one goes.

What am I left thinking/feeling/wanting?

• There remains an overwhelming NEED for more 6th Doctor in my life!
• A Peri, Turlough and 6th Doc set of adventures please BF!
