Context: I enjoyed the first one, although I was pretty confused at times as to what was actually going on at times I like the concept of Dark Gallifrey, I enjoy the very smooth Robert’s master so I was looking forward to the continuation of this part of the Dark Gallifrey saga.
THE REVIEW
What I thought: whilst listening to this one the overarching story started in episode 1 started to make more sense to me, with Eric Robert’s very smooth master continuing his role as the poisonous vector, corrupting and steering the band of young time lords toward an aim I am still not completely sure about but is gripping nonetheless.
I particularly liked the expansion of TimeLord history/lore with the whole concept of failed regenerations ala the 11 style, with Mother Quiver the example of this terrible time-lord affliction. The psychic nature of the time lords comes to the fore here as well, with the origin of psychic paper neatly part of the narrative. It’s a bit crazy but I like the way this has narratives interweaving with each other, and the Master casting a long shadow across all the proceedings. Good stuff.
Rating: 4 out of 5 psychic trees: very interesting story that is developing nicely, with this listen n making the first episode make much more sense to me now. Robert’s Master is used sparingly but this works in the stories favour, really interesting Master story, very much looking forward to the final episode.
What am I left thinking?
- What the Master is ultimately after?
- How the 8th Doctor will fit into the final episode?
Memorable bits
- Learning where psychic paper comes from
- Mother Quiver
- Messed up Timelords
