Context: So back to the Fantastic 9th Doctor and this time with Rose, the classic New Who Tardis team for new who. I think Eccelston has been brilliant on Big Finish and I always look forward to his adventures, the addition of Rose makes this a must listen for me.

THE REVIEW

What I thought: This is a great/fun listen, and a great start to this new run of 9th Doctor adventures. Set on the Powell estate and canonically smack bang in the middle of that 2005 series of new Who. Very fitting to return to this period 20 years later, amazing we are getting this now. Tim Foley always delivers and this one is no exception, lovely stuff here between the team and Jackie, as well as the introduction of Kevin and Marlene who are interesting, well written characters that interact in interesting and amusing ways throughout the story. The alien plant/trap thingy is cool and the twist, i.e. Spider IS the plant makes for an emotional conclusion to the story. The 9th Doctor makes an emotional and life changing request to Kevin at the end that brought a tear to my eye. Great start.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Flowerpots: this is a very strong start to this next range of stories, it’s unremarkable in some ways but this one hit me and I was quite affected by this, lovely stuff.

What I felt: happy to be back with 9 and rose, and always really happy to be back with Jackie, love Camille C!

What am I left thinking?

• There is clearly an arc developing here, happily completely unaware of what it is, can’t wait to find out!
• Will we see more of Jackie? I really hope so!

Memorable bits

• An alien forest in a council flat bathroom!
• All the banter between Jackie and 9, awesome!
