Context: very happy to be back in the world of Gallifrey, not that long after my last season 5 listen. Great excitement at starting this boxset, listened too on a couple of long bike rides.

THE REVIEW

What I thought: really great box set, and a very exciting set of adventures. The AXIS returns and the Daleks assault Gallifrey big time, and for a bit of this boxset, take over Gallifrey. Rommana returns to the original Gallifrey where we see some familiar faces from the Gallifrey series again, with Rommana sort of re-generating at the end of the second episode. The final episode sees the timewar coming to the Gallifrey series, with our heroes trapped in the Matrix, with a final battle, K9 playing a key role and a tragic ending for Lady Trey (but more on her sooner rather than later so it ist that sad). there is a very crazy twist at the end, with Narvin messing up big time, and a segway into the modern series and the TimeWar, sort of.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Daleks –

What I felt: Very pleasing end to this run of the Gallifrey range, and it goes out on a very strong set of exciting and satisfying stories, brilliant (also very moving tribute to Mary Tamm in the finale behind the scenes interviews)

What am I left thinking?

  • Why did BF ‘end’ Gallifrey at this point
  • I will miss Gallifrey! (although I know it returns so no stress here)
  • How the returning Gallifrey range will manage the TimeWar

Memorable bits

  • Lady Trey is so cool
  • Nice Braxiatel cameo
  • Narvin starts the TimeWar!
  • Time War Daleks
