Context: Back to Dark Gallifrey, I have very much enjoyed the Master! boxsets and the use of this version of the Master in BF has always been fasinating to me, crazy they both a) got Eric Robert’s and b) have been able to weave this incarnation into Who BF cannon. So I was looking forward to see how Master! fits with the dark gallifrey ‘storyline’…is there even a common storyline?!? I am intensely relaxed about that though, I am just enjoying the ride.
THE REVIEW
What I thought: very moody in places, nice set up with the Master in some kind of alternate persona/disguise, the Vector, helping out these timelord students in some kind of weird and deadly field trip. I admit I dont think I completly followed what was going on here at times (probably more a case of being distracted and not being attentive enough rather than a fault with the story/writing). At times the dialogue was a little too ‘describe-y’ for me and there was lots of Gallifrey stuff, which I usually like, but perhaps a little too much of this here, also not enough Master! For me but when he is in a scene it shines. Great stuff at times, an interesting adventure.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 vectors: good fun, puts some Dark back into Dark Gallifrey after the daft but enjoyable foray with Missy. Eric R is great in this, love this very charming and deadly version of the Master
What am I left thinking?
- Quite a lot as I am really not sure what is going on here….I am chill with that.
- Where this is going?
- Where exactly does this fit in the Master’s timeline??
Memorable bits
- Crashed TARDIS’ and messed up time insects
- The Vector version of the Master
- Messed up Timelord students
