Context: I always look forward to a 4th doctor boxset, this one having the Brig involved, made this set even more tantalising. The context was important here as well as I listened to this one coming off the back of my disappointment at how ‘season 2’ ended (in brief, pretty dire) so I was very much looking forward to the warm bath pleasure of immersing back into a very familiar and much loved doctor and era, as always so well imagined by the 4th doctor BF boxsets.

THE REVIEW

What I thought: a hugely enjoyable set of stories, linked to the planet Kaerula and involving many interesting and clever ‘timey-wimey’ twists and turns. I very much enjoyed the new characters, in particular Nim and the notion of past and future inhabitants of Kaerula at war with each other, trying to prevent environmental collapse, caused by mad scientists and mad schemes etc. Tom B and Loiuse J are on excellent form here and this TARDIS team is just so much fun.

K9 is particular fun throughout these episodes, I have never been that much of a fan of the robot dog however in this boxset I was coming to really appreciate him, and I think audio is the perfect medium for him! The first two stories are great, but I must say it is the final episode which was pure joy for me. The Brig calling the Doc for help, leading to an unexpected trip to Jupiter and a crazy adventure involving banshees and moon rebels. The Brig and Leela end up together and they make such a great, and amusing, team. Fantastic.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Time Drill Bits: bloody great epiosdes which all crack along at a great pace, the whole cast embrace these crazy stories and each episode is rollocking good fun. Highly recommended!

What I felt: amused and entertained, and very happy to be back in the company of the best, and an A list tardis team. Love Culshaw as the Brig and with 4 and Leela, more of this please!

What am I left thinking?

• Not a lot, other than I really hope we see 4 and the brig together again very soon
• I have an anxiety about how many Tom boxsets we have left…its loads isn’t it BF?@?!!! PLEEEASE say it is so.

Memorable bits

• The Brig and Leela on Jupiter!
• A very tidy solution to the main adventure in Kareula
• All the scenes with Nim (and Tom saying ‘Nim’ cracked me up every time).
