Context: I LOVE the cover of this one, and as this is Victorian Torchwood I was very much expecting this one to be right up my stress!
THE REVIEW
What I thought: very amusing and entertaining story, lots of material with just Jack and Queen Victoria. Big chase and some great insights into the set up of old school 1880’s Torchwood. The chase is managed really well, helpd considerably by excellent music and sound effects. Jack is a little different in this one, seems a bit more downbeat perhaps, was that deliberate? and perhaps suffers a little next to the excellent Queen Victoirua. Her thoughts on mortality and what she leaves behind, and a lack of a suitable heir (pertinent considering I have recently listened to Rictus). Solid story, elevated for me by the Victorian setting of course.
Rating: 3.5 out 5 Heirs – strong story, great fun..I would have liked a bit more exploration of Victorian Torchwood although what is in here is great…I would love a boxset in this setting…this is still a good listen though.
What I felt: Entertaining Torchwood listen which continues this strong run of the monthly range.
What am I left thinking?
- How often do we go back to Victorian Torchwood?
- What other things lurk in Torchwoods past…and what turns up in modern age Torchwood
Memorable bits
- Queen Victoria’s final decision about whether she becomes younger is dramatic and gripping
- Jack talking about all the ways he has been killed!
- Queen Victoria in a pub with a pint!!!
