Context: I very much enjoyed the first boxset, its depth, length and epic-ness I enjoyed very very much. So, I couldn’t wait to listen to this second part, I was hoping for more epic storylines all meeting together…and I was stoked to hear how the 8th doctor fits into all of this. It’s a mad story in many ways but works so well, LOVE IT!

THE REVIEW

What I thought: very much the same vibe for me as the first boxset, with the companions and the doctor having their own adventures, all coming together at the end, with the 8th doctor playing a crucial and terribly interesting role, but not actually meeting his 5th self (although he does meet up with Nyssa and Tegan…shame Adric didn’t bump into him but I can understand why this was avoided). The story has some really interesting moments, Tegan having a 3 year relationship whilst waiting for the doctor, the Hooklight latching on to Nyssa’s psychic abilities to name just two out of so many outstanding moments. Hooklight is such an awesome idea, a creepy villain, not sure I completely understand exactly what it is but very cool nonetheless (in particular as its lives in multiple dimensions all at once). I very much liked the space battles as well, with massive space spiders, jeopardy, the lot…I did get a little lost at times, and sitting here reflecting on it I’m not sure I could write down exactly what happened at the end! Nonetheless, great boxset.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Eye-patches – very much a solid, and very entertaining, continuation of the story from the first boxset, with some nice 8th doctor stuff in here as well. The wrap up makes sense continuity wise, but shame the team can’t maintain at least maintain some notion of the adventure, kinda had to end this way though. Head cannon is intact. Bloody brilliant story telling. BF nailed it.

What I felt: really lovely story, epic and strange and a truly exciting adventure. I love this TARDIS teams on BF, works so bloody well. Much kudos to them as actors, to Tim Foley (#legend) and BF for making such quality stories after all this time.

What am I left thinking?

  • Can we get more epic adventures please
  • I am not entirely sure what the score is with doc no 8. What he does next?
  • Not completely clear what all that space spiders stuff was about!

Memorable bits

  • The 8th Doctor talking about his psychic abilities and remembering this body as new, so cool to have him reflect on this.
  • Devlin Crux and Dr Kessica Myles, great characters
  • Teegan’s romace and life away from the TARDIS
