Originally released : March 2025

Listened to: March 2025

Context: I am approaching the Torchwood audios from both ends as it were, the start of the monthly range (I am 4 in thus far) and from a few months ago I also started listening to the newest releases, which brings me to this one!

THE REVIEW

What I thought: I really enjoyed this one, best of my Torchwood listens thus far, ties in with Zygon: Century really well (which I also really enjoyed) and its a historical, which is my fav kind of setting. Fenella W is great as the Princess who inherits Torchwood from her mother (Queen Victoria) and Hugh Fraser is suitably Victorian and creepy as Castringham. The Zygons are well used and the Smiling Man is a great Zygon monstrosity. I really hope they return to this period of Torchwoods history, great stuff.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Duplicates – very good story, great use of the Zygons and brilliant use of the small but stellar cast, highly recommend.

What I felt: very pleased I started this Torchwood Journey, creepy and entertaining, each one has been really different thus far, exploring the darker side of the ‘Whoniverse’. Love it

What am I left thinking?

  • If we will return to Princess Beatrice and Victorian torchwood
  • How this will fit into the next Zygon Cnetury boxset?

Memorable bits

  • The Princess turning on Castringham!
  • The Rictus grin!
