Context:
I was really looking forward to this one, intrigued by the concept of a series about the Krynoids. I really enjoyed the first Zygon Century box set and as a result had high expectations for this one. I also really love Reece Shearsmith, so…high hopes.
THE REVIEW
What I thought:
Blown away! I really enjoyed this, all the stories are strong and flow from one to the next as the inevitable disaster unfolds. Lots of body horror, played to perfection by the cast and the soundscape is bloody brilliant throughout, adding to the doom and horror of what the Krynoids unleashed/are capable of. Very good use of the 8th Doctor as well, ingeniously set up and then a plausible reason he can’t hang around to solve the problem. Intrigued by this initial set of stories and for what might happen next, can’t wait for the next one.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Daleks – this is an outstanding box set, a set of stories to delight and intrigue (and horrify), with a brilliant cast, great sound and very strong story. Can’t wait to find out what happens next.
What I felt: It was a real pleasure to listen to this one, and it’s great that BF continue to innovate, find new areas to explore, develop older ideas/concepts, monsters and characters. This could run and run, be that Zygons, Krynoids etc etc. I imagine a series of limited run sets with a monster theme…so much material to potentially use.
What am I left thinking?
- How will our intrepid hero’s survive the inevitable onslaught in the next box set?
- Will the 8th Doctor work out he screwed up and come back to save the day? Somehow I think not
Memorable bits
- The little girl/Krynoid monster!
- The loss of life in this one is brutal!
