Context: Playing catch up with the BF reviews, I listen to so many not staying on top of the blog reviews is a mistake, as I have probably listen to 10 other sets since I listened to this one at the begining of March, still I remember some of this one and will endeavour to smash out a load of reviews whilst I am on my Easter hols.

THE REVIEW

What I thought:

The longer story, the Hellwood Inheritence, was a little disappointing to be honest. I got lost pretty quickly and then both Doc no 4 and Leela going back and forth in time (in some cases) got me very confused. Its an interesting idea, i.e. Ghost safari, and when we get to the reveal it makes more sense (did to me anyway). The boxset improves IMHO for the second story, where Leela and 4 have an awesome story. Pathos, genuine jeopardy, and quite moving at the end, loved this one, which elevates this boxset from the mundane.

Rating: 3 out of 5 Daleks – the second story is the one for me, with great performances from Tom and LJ. The first story, not sure, a knockabout, some good bits but a little forgettable, hence the rather vagueness of my review and the mediocre score.

What I felt:

Always happy to listen to a Tom B story, even if not a great one I do love the fourth doctor, and Leela as well. I was happy to listen, if not blown away.

What am I left thinking?

  • I am somewhat fearful the 4th Doctor sets may become a bit of a hodge podge, like this one…too harsh maybe?
  • Be nice to get a little arc perhaps in between box sets.

Memorable bits

  • Ghosts are interesting
  • Love the Memory thieves, great stuff
