Starring Stephen Noonan and Peter Purves
Originally released : January 2025
Listened to: January 2025
Context: Not a lot to add here, other than this was a commute listen, which sometimes can be a problem concentration wise, especially on the way back from work, when I am brain dead from work. Not so the case with this one, was gripping and made the drive very enjoyable.
THE REVIEW
What I thought: it’s a good one this, I love the older Steven and the interactions with this world weary Steven and the first doctor. Of which I think that Noonan is getting better each boxset, I think he is great in this. It feels like he is making this his own now, putting his stamp on his version of the first doctor. Dodo has a small role, but it’s an important role and merges into/explains her final TV appearance really well. I did find the story rather long, it’s a bit of a pointless run around at a few points but overall an enjoyable story that ties together rather lovely at the end.
Rating: 3.9 out of 5 Daleks – very solid, some really strong parts, a bit long for me but very enjoyable none the less.
What I felt: really pleased I choose to listen to the first doctor boxsets. It adds a dimension to my BF listening that is distinct to other ranges and has made me re-evaluate the Hartnell TV episodes (thanks to the season 2 collection boxset as well, superb).
What am I left thinking?
- What happens next and which other companions come back
Memorable bits
- Old Steven is great
