Context:

So I started the journey with this one, which I read earlier this year (2024) but only just getting to this mini-review now. This is an important one from a historical and personal perspective, first new original Who and at the time felt very much like the only chance of new who. it also was something my 13 year old-ish embraced, loved and desperately wanted to read THEM ALL! In this context it is possibly the one I can remember the best. So, did it live up to my expectations/memories?

THE REVIEW

What I thought: So I really enjoyed re-visiting this. I could recall a lot of the beginning and the ending of this one, with faffing in the middle. it struck me as an odd mix of old school who and some weird new fusion/modern approach…I think this only partly works

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 Daleks (looses .5 of a Dalek for all the boobs, unnecessary)

What I felt? This one really took me back, I remember vividly buying this from WHSmith in Altringham (Cheshire) and starting to read it in the back of my mums car!)

Its an interesting start to the NA’s, which I know carries on and has some awesome stories ahead, however at the time it wasn’t entirely convincing this would carry on.

What am I left thinking?

  • Can this jarring style be ironed out
  • The moody and introspective 7th doc becomes what??

Memorable bits

– Knickers!

– Too much nudity!

– I completely forgot the fourth doctor was in this!
